So we come home from a 3 week vacay (eewww, who actually uses that word?) and we discover 6 problems.
(1) Our internet is not working. This was a major problem as I am sorta addicted to the internet. Facebook, xanga, investopedia (i know I'm a geek), and pinkisthenewblog.com (go there!). Ah! It was like going back to the dark ages.
(2) Our cable isn't working. Well, everything except SunTV, the Indian (specifically Tamil) channel. For those of you who don't know, however "addicted" I am to the internet, multiply that by 10. That's my addiction to T.V. and the average number of hours I watch per day. Now we're going back to roman times.
(3) Our phone line is disconnected. Eh, not so bad because I have my cell. But seriously, I don't like to use my cell because it uses up minutes and because I'm afraid of brain cancer. Not really, but sort of.
(4) The lights in our kitchen and various other places don't work. Actually, didn't bother me too much until my dad called and had the three of us running around the house flipping switches and pushing in those red and black reset buttons. For three hours. Luckily, it still hasn't worked?
(5) Our mail hadn't arrived. Mucho problemo. As we later discovered when my mom drove to Lake Jackson (wtf?) which is our post office delivery place apparently, I got a ton of stuff from college with important information. That I'm supposed to fill out. And return. In less than 3 days.
(6) Our alarm system went crazy. Started beeping and blaring at 3 in the morning. Supposedly connected to our mysterious phone line disconnection.
Root cause: freak lightning storm. All problems have been resolved except for 4. Calling electrician tomorrow. The cable for our internet was burned up by lightning. Scary. The adapter box in our house for cable was short-circuited by lightning. Frightening. The alarm box froze due to a surge in power from, you guessed it, lightning, which also happened to disconnect our home phone.
Moral of the story: unplug your T.V.s and computers during crazy bad storms because they might go crazy. Like most of the electronics in my house did.
